Living and working in Shetland really isn’t like anywhere else – and both Shetland Islands Council and NHS Shetland play an integral role in its community, economy and infrastructure. Our work directly affects every person who lives on, or visits, our islands.
An island community presents some unique challenges, not least the added complexity of delivering cost effective and fit-for-purpose services without the infrastructure or specialist services of mainland UK. Ensuring that our community have access to the same high quality health and support services as the rest of the UK, while managing the cost pressures of off-island provision is a constant and complex challenge.
The last 12 months have been a remarkably testing time for our services, as we responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. Simply put: our staff have done a remarkable job. And supporting them in their continued commitment to achieving the best outcomes for our community will be a core priority for this role. At the same time, we will continue to pursue the integration agenda, shaping a modern, cohesive and efficient Health and Social Care service that will support the quality of life that makes these islands such a great place.
Shetland is a quite remarkable place to live, work, and flourish, and we look forward to working closely with the successful applicant to deliver our organisations’ targets, priorities, and ambitions for our community.
We wish you the very best of luck with your application.
